Matthias Lehmann --------The cartoonist blues

Lord, doing comics is a drag, you work so hard, you don't even go out for an entire week...and for what? Me, i have been publishing stories, paintings,illustrations in many anthologies since 1994, but i have only a few books published. Two in France (a 3rd one, soon) and two in Portugal. I am sweating over a 200-page graphic novel for almost five years. Yes! Yes! Oooh, doing comics is so good: both my cultures' folkloric tales, land, art (i am french-brasilian), black novels, Thomas Benton, Erskine Caldwell, Jim Thompson, Tom Waits, Francisco Goya, Mexican wooodcuts, Portinari, hopper, Leadbelly, Lynch, Max Beckmann, Gustave Doré, Charles Burns and a bag full of songs are among the the things i try to show in my art. My best influence/material is human. Yes! Yes! Oooh, art, helps you dusting your memories, yes sir!
